Over more than 25 years I have worked across consulting, research, innovation and delivery, including leadership roles at bp, Teradata, AWS and EPAM. This has involved analytics, machine learning, websites, content and large-scale digital transformation projects designed to improve decision‑making and create measurable value.
I work flexibly across locations and sectors, collaborating with trusted specialists where needed, but always with a focus on clear thinking, useful insight and high‑quality execution.

I bring a combination of senior leadership experience, technical depth and practical delivery. With a background spanning engineering, finance, analytics and innovation, I work across strategy and execution rather than treating them as separate disciplines.
I have led major digital and AI programmes for organisations from high‑growth consultancies to global enterprises — including a $500M+ technology portfolio and multi‑year transformation roadmaps across energy, manufacturing, logistics, financial services and retail.
My approach is collaborative, evidence‑based and outcome‑focused. Whether the need is AI, analytics, digital transformation or content strategy, the aim is always the same: clear advice, thoughtful design and work that delivers real value, with a strong emphasis on responsible and transparent use of data and AI.
I support organisations in using data, analytics and AI more effectively. My work includes digital strategy, machine learning and GenAI use‑case design, insight generation, content development, website and platform projects, and broader digital transformation.
I provide vendor‑neutral guidance on priorities, operating models and architecture choices across cloud, data platforms and AI — drawing on experience as both buyer and supplier of large‑scale programmes. This includes hands‑on design and evaluation of applied AI systems such as RAG pipelines, AI assistants and computer‑vision solutions.
I also help translate complex ideas into clear communication, whether that means strategy documents, digital content, websites or AI‑enabled tools. Where appropriate, I work with trusted collaborators to deliver design, development and creative execution.

AI and Analytics Advisor
John is an accomplished leader with over 25 years’ experience in digital strategy, analytics and technology. He has held senior roles across energy, technology and consulting, including leadership positions at bp, Teradata, AWS and EPAM, where he built and led global practices in data, AI and digital transformation.
He holds a BEng and PhD in Engineering from Birmingham University and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Edinburgh University, and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the IET (FIET) and certified Project Management Professional (PMP). His credentials also include multiple AWS certifications in cloud architecture, machine learning, development and data analytics.
Earlier in his career John founded and ran an internet business while conducting research in areas such as digital communication systems and signal processing, publishing work on topics including underwater communications and dolphin vocalisation analysis. Today his work focuses on helping boards and executive teams use analytics, AI and digital technologies responsibly to deliver measurable business value.
Outside of work he enjoys mountain biking, kite‑surfing, flying light aircraft and racket sports.
